Welcoming Finnley

This little guy entered the world during Lockdown 2.0, similar to how things are now as are coming out of Lockdown 4.0, we couldn’t do a newborn in-home session. We could however have a session outside so outside it was. To say I was anxious was an understatement, I had never captured a newborn outside, for these guys Mr and Mrs Cruisey As it was simple, not an issue at all.

The day before their session in my “what will I do modes” I location scouted for over 2 hours, it was windy and it had been pouring all week, everywhere I went I found waterlogged ground. I was determined to find somewhere perfect. After driving all over Geelong and the Bellarine I had the brain wave of a lovely little spot where I thought I might be able to find some shelter. A little embarrassed to admit that this lovely spot is walking distance from my house and I drive past it pretty much every time I get in my car to go anywhere. Please tell me you have moments like this too, the ones where you are so focused on finding the perfect thing you overlook the obvious?

So, seven weeks after Finnley Oscar was born (thank you lockdown 2.0). We met in the carpark of Gateway Sanctuary in Leopold - if you are Geelong local and haven’t been you should go it’s lovely, a great playground for kids and a lovely walk where you can see ducks, swans and in the paddock to the side there are often cows or sheep that kids love to see. We found a nice sheltered bit of dry grass and let the magic of family connection unfold. One of the great things about lifestyle newborn sessions is that your baby can be a little older, so the fact that Finnley was already seven weeks old didn’t really matter, what mattered most was capturing some beautiful family photos for this new family of four.

It is so hard in Covid times when these babes are born. I really feel for all parents who bought new little ones into the world during this time, a time where you needed help and support from extended family and friends and it couldn’t be given. It goes both ways for the family and friends wanting to meet your new little one. The upside many partners worked from home and were able to watch milestones happen that they otherwise would have missed.

Little Finnley is my great nephew, he had 2 sets of grandparents that lived interstate and didn’t get to meet him, so these photos were extra important. Finnley along with his big brother and cousins are very lucky, their Nanny and Poppy decided that Covid locking down borders between Queensland and Victoria was just too much and made to move back to Victoria. These boys now have Nanny and Poppy living around the corner and I have my sister not too far away. Some good things have come from Covid!

While I am here, I’ll give my sister a little shout out if you are a Geelong local you might see her at local markets in the near future. Actually she custom makes orders and mails them Australia wide too! Her name is Leanne and her business is Polka Dots & Paisley. If you click her name you can have a look at her Facebook page, but don’t leave until you have looked at these gorgeous family photos!
